Originally designed by a group of six charities over 30 years ago, FirstClass has been continually developed and improved, and along with FirstClass Web, there are over 115 not-for-profit organisations using it today.
FirstClass manages the intricacies of the legacy process and has been developed using the latest Microsoft technologies to be a professional, affordable and cost-effective tool for not-for-profit organisations seeking to maximise their income stream from legacies.
Every not-for-profit organisation needs effective legacy management, so Clear have created a suite of applications to provide a solution for organisations of all sizes. With a range of powerful features, organisations can choose from FirstClass In-House, FirstClass Cloud, FirstClass Essentials and FirstClass Web.
Clear and Legacy Foresight work together on the main Legacy Monitor programme. FirstClass clients’ data is automatically extracted and formatted for the Legacy Monitor programme, saving time and ensuring accuracy.
The ILM is the membership body for all those working in legacies, representing and supporting more than 650 individuals working in over 450 charities, not-for-profit organisations and associated professions.
Across the sector, legacy professionals are responsible for over £3bn of charitable income each year – income that many charitable organisations rely on for their survival. They are proud to do the work they do, they know they are representing a person’s final wishes, and they conduct their work with great skill and compassion.
Ultimately the ILM seeks to ensure that every donor’s charitable legacy achieves its greatest potential. In working towards that goal, the Institute partners with a range of organisations and professional bodies to ensure the legal environment supports and promotes charity legacy giving, and to offer members additional support, information and collaboration opportunities. Legacy Foresight are corporate partners of the ILM
Remember A Charity is a vibrant behaviour change campaign that aims to inspire the public to leave a charitable gift in their Will. Working collaboratively with its member charities and a network of strategic partners, the consortium’s mission is to do what no organisation can do alone, growing the legacy market and normalising this crucial form of giving.
Established in 2000, Remember A Charity now represents almost 200 member charities, who work together to drive change through inspiring consumer campaigns, strategic partnerships with solicitors, Will-writers and professional advisers, and by lobbying government to enhance the wider legacy giving environment. The consortium encompasses a diverse range of charities, giving them the platform, resources and guidance to maximise their legacy fundraising.
Remember A Charity works all year round to promote legacy giving. However, its annual awareness campaign Remember A Charity Week takes place each September and has become a central focal point for shining a light on legacy giving.
Remember A Charity is part of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.
Legacy Foresight, Legacy Futures and Remember A Charity are strategic partners, working to pool and build knowledge of the legacy market to support charities across the UK.
They work to help voluntary organisations and volunteers make the biggest difference they can, by:
– Connecting organisations with the people, partners and resources they need
– Representing the voluntary sector and volunteering to policy-makers, using the best research to demonstrate their true value
– Supporting voluntary organisations by generating and identifying the best knowledge and expertise
Like NCVO, Legacy Foresight are committed to supporting voluntary organisations in all their forms. We are proud to be long-standing corporate members of NCVO.
Their experienced team provides all the services legacy teams need, from advice and assistance on day-to-day legacy administration, through to advising on more complex issues such as permanent endowment; trusts and trust disputes; gifts of shares, property; art-work and IP rights; challenges to legacies left by Will; claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975; claims in proprietary estoppel, cy-près schemes, ex gratia payments and the refusal of gifts where necessary or appropriate.
They can also help with the legal aspects of legacy fundraising, including preparing and reviewing legacy marketing materials, advising on setting up new legacy fundraising campaigns, and advising on all regulatory and compliance issues.
Beyond legal advice, they help foster a community of charity practitioners – both experienced specialists and newcomers to the sector – by providing regular training and other events, and offering a hub of resources for charities.
Bates Wells advises more of the top 3,000 charities than any other UK law firm and is consistently ranked in the top tier for Charities by Chambers UK and Legal 500.
Our sister company Legacy Link’s team of independent charity legacy officers work as an extension of legacy administration teams. They help charities to navigate the sometimes complex estate administration process, from notification of a gift, through to distribution of the estate. Their many years of experience allows them to communicate with executors in a respectful and sensitive way, while making sure the charities’ interests are represented. Services range from long-term support for smaller charities to short-term cover for larger legacy teams, as well as an online help desk for one-off enquiries. Legacy Link’s team can also provide tailored consultancy and training to help charities meet best practice, ensure good governance, reduce risk and maximise their legacy potential.
